When Tuttle
Police Officers
Become Revenuers
by JD Nutt, IG Web-Editor
Report last updated on December 15th, 2010 - Tuttle, OK.
While talking to my neighbor across the road, I learned we both had something in common. We had been pulled over by a patrol officer of the Tuttle, Oklahoma Police Department, twice, within the last  month.
Coincidence? I think not. It’s a sign of the times. With income for the city slowing to a trickle, revenue is badly needed. So why not call on the Police Chief Don Cluck to get a boost. Hence,  Tuttle Police Officers become revenuers by making more contacts during their patrol duties. More citations are issued and more revenue is collected.
I asked one officer who had delayed me if he was aware of  the term “pro-active police work”. He replied “that’s what I’m doing”.
The reality is the City Council needs money. Yesterday the vote for a city library failed. Consequently the ear marked half cent tax increase will not go into effect. (Do people still go to libraries ?)
It has come to a sad point in our community when our police have to collect revenue for our city fathers. At least the officers are not drawing their weapons on the citizens as they meet their collection quota. Not yet anyway.
Yesterday, Doug Enevoldsen with NewsOK.com wrote:  Oklahoma is the only state in the nation whose municipalities are required to operate primarily on sales tax, a highly volatile revenue source whose base has steadily been eroded over time through legislated tax exemptions and ever-rising, nontaxed Internet sales. http://bit.ly/emRSNB
